Crafty - A Portable To Rival Plugins

The Crafty Vaporizer is one of two portables released by the renowned vape manufacturer Storz & Bickel, makers of the Volcano vaporizers. While it might not seem like much at first glance, this is one seriously powerful portable that packs the punch of a heavyweight. But how does it stack up against the rest of the portable vaporizer field? Continue reading this review to find out.

Adjusting the Crafty’s vaporizing temperature, which ranges from 104°F to 410°F, requires the user to download and install the vape’s app, which works with both Android and iOS devices. For that matter, taking advantage of all the features it offers requires using the app so if you’re not keen on using apps, you might look to the Crafty’s big brother, the Mighty Vaporizer by Storz & Bickel as an alternative since all functionality is built directly into the device itself. But with the Crafty’s app, one can adjust the two temperature settings programmed into it. The first setting is the “Default” setting which is set to 356 degrees Fahrenheit. The second setting, known as the “Boost” setting, is set at 383 degrees Fahrenheit. The idea behind the two settings, both of which can be customized via the app, is that one is your standard vaping temperature and the other is your elevated temperature, the latter being useful when you’re trying to squeeze the final draws out of your blend or just to get some really potent periodic puffs.

Vibration signaling is one of the features that helps set this pocket-sized portable vaporizer apart from the crowd. It allows you to stash it in your pocket while it’s heating up and receive a notification when it’s reached the desired vaping temperature. This way you can discreetly tuck it away while heating up and let the vibe tell you when it’s ready to blow clouds (and clouds it does blow).

As far as heating time goes, the Crafty isn’t the fastest as it takes almost two minutes to reach vaping temperatures. However, it more than makes up for heat up time with its incredible vapor – vapor which not only tastes great, but blows dense and packs a serious punch.

To emphasize just how well the Crafty vapes, it’s on par, if not better than, most desktop vaporizers we’ve come across, and that’s saying a lot for a battery powered portable you can take wherever. For those familiar with the company’s Volcano vapes, this might not come as much of a surprise given the potency and flavor of the vapor produced by the Classic and Digital Volcano vaporizers. But for those who are unfamiliar, let’s just say that the Volcanoes produce top notch vapor that is unmatched by most other vaporizers on the market today, and the Crafty is truly no exception as it too produces vapor that is of a quality unrivaled by most other vaporizers. Seriously, it’s that good.

One of the variables that we like to take into consideration when evaluating the overall quality of a vaporizer is draw resistance. This is how much resistance there is when inhaling vapor. With the Crafty, there is very, very little resistance.  You don’t feel like you’re sucking through a straw but rather drawing at your leisure. And this really makes the whole vaping experience that much more enjoyable and effective.

Considering the outstanding taste, impressive cloud density, and lack of draw resistance, the Crafty is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable portable vaporizers we’ve had the pleasure of using. And coming from us, that’s saying a lot.

For us, the only really noticeable downside (beyond the relatively high cost which you can click here to see) is the somewhat short battery life. While some portables will last for hours on a fully charged battery, the Crafty only lasts about an hour. While this might not seem like much, it’s sufficient time to partake in four or five solid sessions. For most users this will be more than enough to get them through the day, but for others this might fall a little short. Having said that, seeing as the Crafty recharges via a USB cord there’s an easy way to extend its battery life without sacrificing portability: a portable USB charging device. You can pick up an extremely compact battery for cheap online and simply plug the Crafty in when it’s running low – dramatically extending session time when you’re on the go. For those seeking a portable vape offering longer battery life without the need for an accessory, the Firefly 2 might be a better option. But then again, the vapor it produces hardly compares to that of the Crafty’s, so you’re likely better off taking a look at the other Storz & Bickel portable, the incredibly powerful Mighty Vaporizer, which offers comparable vapor but with the trade-off of slightly reduced portability.

As for the types of blends that can be used with the Crafty, just about everything under the sun should function well as the Crafty is designed to work with dried blends as well as liquids and oils. So regardless of your blend or boil, the Crafty is more than capable of vaping it. In order to vape liquids such as oils it takes advantage of the same stainless steel “Liquid Pad” that the Plenty comes with. Simply insert the pad into the heating chamber, add your liquid and begin vaping. Nothing complicated about it. It truly is that simple and straight forward.

All things considered, the Crafty is undoubtedly one of the best portable vaporizers on the market. It’s relatively compact, has excellent vapor production, handles virtually all types of blends, and comes with an app that allows you to tweak the settings to your preference. For us, the only real downside is the cost, but for those who can afford it, it is simply one of the best vaporizers money can buy.
